VFW Post 7119 will be accepting submissions for Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen until October 31st.

Voice of Democracy
-Essay Audio Contest, Open to High School Students, Grades 9-12
-Theme: What Makes America Great
-$30,000 for 1st place nationally
-$1,000 for 1st place per State
-2019 Indiana winner received $7,000 in scholarships

Patriot’s Pen
-Essay Contest, Open to students in Grades 6-8
-Theme: What Makes America Great
-$5,000 1st place nationally
-$500 for 1st place in State
-2019 Indiana winner received $500 in scholarships

Teacher of the Year

Nominations for Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year are also due by October 31st.

Winner receives:

  • A $1,000 award for professional development expenses.
  • A $1,000 award for his/her school. 
  • Two award plaques: one for the teacher, the other for his/her school.
  • An all-expenses-paid trip to attend a VFW conference to receive their award.

Scout of the Year

-Open to Boy and Girl Scouts who display standout citizenship, patriotism and love of country.

-Up to $5,000 in college scholarship

Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest

VFW Auxiliary Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest submission are due to VFW Post 7119 by March 31, 2020.

-Art Contest Open to Grades 9-12 (max age 18)
-$15,000 1st place national winner
-Indiana 2019 winner from Elwood, Indiana won 4th place nationally and received $1,500 in scholarships.
